Healthy Snacks

I snack. A LOT. I figure most athletes do, so I thought I would share my favorite snacks - in hopes that you will share your favorites with me in return.

In no particular order - my recent favorites:
  • Veggies & pita bread with hummus (broccoli, carrots, and celery are my favorites - more dip-able)
  • Apple wedges with peanut butter (I like the Trader Joe's version with flax seeds in it - adds a bit of crunch)
  • Kefir - berry flavor
  • Trail mix with chocolate covered espresso beans (almonds, raisins, etc. - the key to a great trail mix in my book is the addition of dark chocolate espresso beans)
  • Fresh squeezed OJ (not exactly a complete snack, but soooooo good!)
  • Simply Bars - I recently discovered these - they are vegan, dairy and gluten-free, low glycemic, organic, etc. And they pack 16g of protein while still tasting good (my favorite flavor is chocolate coffee)
What are your favorite healthy snacks are that fuel your workouts? I'm always looking for new ideas.

wont help your work out, but sour dill pickles (yum).
will help- snap beans,
baked chick pee's or garbonzo beans.
Yam fries
Orange wedges with pico de gallo sprinkled on them
soy beans (like at sushi restraunt)

not so healthy- Vanilla bean ice creme with a big fat scoop of peanut butter mixed in, I got this from another blogger and fell in love with it.

I could go on, I'm down with good food, aka snacks.

Oh!! Snacks are my favorite. Actually, I eat more like 10 snacks/day instead of meals. :) My favorite (for the moment) is plain Greek yogurt w/Back to Nature sunflower and pumpkin seed granola. YUM! And I agree with you - trail mix is also another awesome one!

I will have to try those bars! As a student on the go, I snack alot too. I a bit of sandwiches on gluten free bread or a pre-made smoothie.

I have to watch the nuts pre run, but....I make a Nut butter and honey sandwich each morning and cut it into 1/4's. Or i make 2! Then i snack on that all day long when i am home.
I also eat string cheese or the mini bonbels with some Wasa crackers.
Another fave is nut butter with bananas...
I have to try the espresso beans, vroom vroom!

Hard boiled eggs, clementines, Sahale mixed-nuts ... but my all time favorite, ulta indulgent is 1/2 a cinnamon rasin bagel with Justin's Chocolate Almond Butter. YUM!

Looks good, I need to go healthy.

Me, after a big workout?... a few beers, chips and salsa (now there is no secret why I am 190#)

I love low fat cottage cheese with blueberries, rice cakes with peanut butter/almond butter, bananas with peanut butter, or any type of fruit.

Beth and I eat the exact same snack - the greek yogurt and granola. Yum.

I'm a fan of Lara Bars too.

And trail mix. And oranges.

Peanut butter pretzels too but they have corn syrup in them - why? So I don't buy them anymore.

Chocolate almond butter? I must find this magic elixir.

Some great ideas here that I'm going to try! Celery with organic peanut butter is a favourite of mine, and when it's hot I always go for some frozen grapes - they seem like candy!

Thanks for the GF shout out. I'm always looking for good GF protein bars. I'm going to make my own tomorrow with toasted amaranth. I hope I don't set my kitchen on fire. ;)

Oh geez I could write a book on bad things to drink. Healthy... hmmm, I'd have to say peanut butter toast *sometimes* with honey... ftw. :)

My snacks are pretty boring, I think:
*granola bar (not as healthy as those bars you mentioned, though!)
*carrots/broc/red peppers
*and sometimes a slice of whole wheat bread with a thin layer of low fat cream cheese with honey drizzled over it. :)

Nothing beats the apple/peanut butter combo, but dried dates dipped in tahini come come really close!

And frozen red grapes in the summer. Dangerous.

Packets of Justin's Almond Butter either with maple or chocolate!

I eat a lot of fruit. And have some nakd bars (UK equivalent to larabars). I also have some nuts or dried fruit. Japanese crackers are also yummy.
