Wernick Racing Weekend

This is a busy Wernick racing weekend. While I will be racing in Austin, Steven will be racing his first marathon in Long Beach.

Steven is ready! PB put a training plan together and Steven did all the work. He put in the long runs, speed work, and other than a small achilles issue that sidelined him for a few weeks, his training went off without a hitch. I was impressed with his ability to listen to his body while training. A few times when he knew he was overly tired or something didn't feel right he wasn't afraid to cut a workout. I like to think this comes from years of watching me train (and sometimes screwing things up), but I'm pretty sure it's just because he is smart and knew it can be better to skip a workout or cut one short than spend multiple weeks sidelined by injury.

There is something awesome about a "first" - whether it be your first marathon, ironman, triathlon, pro race, etc. I think it is always special. You enter the unknown and finish sometimes humbled, but often more confident.

So to my speedy husband - go after it on Sunday. I'll be thinking of you as I'm trying to chase girls down in the Austin heat. I am very proud of you and really wish I could be in two places at once. Go crush the Wernick marathon PR!
